I jumped on request from my just-had-dental-work-done sister in law for some orange sherbet.

I started with this recipe. I saw several, but went with this one because it just seemed like it was going to be good.

http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/alton-brown/orange-sherbet-recipe/index.html

7 ounces sugar

1 1/2 tablespoons finely grated orange zest

1/4 teaspoon kosher salt

2 cups freshly squeezed orange juice, approximately 2 to 3 pounds oranges

1 tablespoon freshly squeezed lemon juice

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 1/2 cups very cold whole milk

My modifications were, using half heavy cream and milk instead of just milk, throwing two full oranges in there to give it texture (the rest orange juice) maybe twice the amount lemon joice, added after I tasted it when it was beginning to form, and using natural sugar instead of normal white sugar. (I prefer to use natural sugars when making things that are heavy with sugar.)

After I had all the ingredients in the bowl, I pulled out my new hand mixer to make sure the two oranges were completly mixed up and able to go into my ice cream machine. Loved doing that, it also ever so slightly whipped the dessert, not like whipped cream, but just a tad.

End result, pure fantastic. Actually sort of tasted like these childhood favorites.

We all want a good strong multinational CEO keeping the profit flowing, people employed, food on the table for thousands, sections of the economy inflated, etc. On the other hand, it almost seems like our entire military turned into a bunch of mercenaries out to catch one guy and surgically remove all he stood for like a fungus. In a marvel comic fashion I can only say, “with great power comes great responsibility” and I believe a serious violation of power has occurred. As an American still with the desire for vengeance deep within me, all I have to say is that I too would have pulled the trigger w/o thinking twice, and I suspect the same from most New Yorkers I know. I thank our president for reminding the country that many people including Muslims have been ruthlessly killed under the leadership style this person created.

Wanted to blog a little about my Monday night Collegiate Shag class.

I’ve heard via studio staff over the past year on multiple occasions that newcomers were saying my shag classes were far too ‘advanced’ to keep up. This doesn’t surprise me. Over the past year’s worth of run on this DM shag class, the class has become progressively more advanced as the student base became stronger. Now days, it’s fierce in those Monday night classes. So fierce that one of the more senior students just won her first competition. It was her first time shagging outside of NYC, first comp, and an easy first place. And I honestly believe she’s not the only one who could have done that from the class.

That aside, I think most would agree that shag has a super steep learning curve.

kaufen Womens Intimacy Enhancer online

And of course, newcomers walking out of class quickly mixed with some hardcore dancers wanting to move to the next level is every instructor’s dilemma. I’ve chosen for the past year to place more of an effort in working on on the advanced side of shag. I did so mostly because there simply didn’t seem like there were enough newcomers flowing through to make teaching newcomers an option. And because I think that if nobody’s really rocking the shag, there will be no newcomers. [check out this related article if you are interested.]

Well, there seem to be more and more newcomers coming in now. And up until recently I think this issue was really intimidating potential shaggers, especially in my class.

I thought a lot about the dilemma and came up with a different formula that seems to be working, at least for shag, and at least for right now. Rather than splitting the class into two classes, we’ve changed the structure of the class to be more all levels simply by changing the way content was delivered and then asking students to practice differently. And, members from the 212 shag masters troupe are there to pair off and give individual coaching if a newer student doesn’t quite feel comfortable trying content. When paired off, maybe the pair works on a similar move/connection, or even just principles. The point is, it’s much better designed for solid learning for newcomers and advanced dancers by leveraging the different skill levels in a different way.

The results have been pretty awesome thus far, at least I think so. Newer people are sticking around and picking everything up quickly because of direct and applicable coaching, and they get to try out all the good stuff the senior students too. And when the more advanced students pair they’re trying similar but more advanced versions of the same motion, connection, pattern, etc.

All that said, shag classes are starting up every month.
I’m hoping that we get some guys in, and of course, newcomers to shag encouraged to attend.

Also, thanks to the NYC shag community for making this class so successful. I think you cats are all rocking the shag like NYC hasn’t seen since the Buy Buy lozol VPXL Online Pharmacy No Prescription Needed 30′s.

Firstly, I should mention I just sold a fantastic Honda that I put over 20K miles on. And in several cases, especially new riders, I’d suggest the exact bike I had as being possibly the best possible bike you can buy. For me though, I always wanted a Harley, even when I put down the check for that Honda a decade ago, this is what I really wanted to ride.

Well, I’m there. Old dudes, 40 year midlife crisis, however you want to look at it, I have the exact bike I want. It was custom made for me, it literally had my name on the front forks as it went down the line and passed off to the team that put most of the detail stuff on by hand. (That’s how the Harley CVO line works, you have to special order them and a huge chunk of the bike is hand built because they’re so different than the regular lines. My bike is basically a softail, but totally decked out.)

In terms of general design, and even bike design, it’s a work of art. And once it’s actually running in motorcycle mode, it’s just flat bad ass. I’ve gotta say more than that right? You probably aren’t looking for bad ass, you probably want the details from a real owner.

The Compliments

Stability : It feels so incredibly stable. Maybe it’s the wide tires, or how low the weight is on the bike, but the fact that it’s literally twice as big as my last engine seems to not matter. I swear it’s easier to handle on the road, and even at stop signs. It’s just all around comfortable with respect to stability. I must admit I was a little freaked out about jumping from 750CC’s to 1800+, but you really wouldn’t even know the difference. Hell, even when a passenger climbs on it’s easier. Any motorcyclist will tell you that the entire time from when a passenger throws a leg over all the way until they are sitting solidly on the seat is spooky.

Braking : Braking is unreal. The braking system, even though the bike is so much heavier is just amazing. You’d think it’d be difficult to stop such a heavy bike. But, it has full hydrolic /disk brakes in front in back. Man Harley nailed brakes.

Acceleration : It’s a freakin’ rocket — no joke. It jumps like a race bike, and I bet five bucks I could take down most sport bikes right off the block if I was into that but I’m not. Still, any rider will tell you acceleration keeps you safe when people are trying to run you over. For this bike, it’s like turning on a fire hose, and that definitely adds to the safety factor.

Starting : It starts way better in the cold than I would expect it to. There’s no choke either. I don’t know how the engine designers pulled that off.

The paint : Man, I really debated just buying a different bike just because the paint was blue and I believe all motorcycles should be black. When it’s right in front of you though, that deep blue, all the chrome, holy crap it’s just stunning. And it’s such a deep color too, layered. Kind of like how some foods have a rich flavor you have to taste for a few extra seconds, the paint has a rich appearance. It must be 20+ coats to get it to look like that.

kaufen Womens Intimacy Enhancer online

The detail : It’s hard to believe the amount of detail in this bike… Every bolt, carefully placed. Leather and chrome work are unbelievable.. Every color contrast carefully considered. I can’t say enough about all the detail in this bike. Sure all most all Harleys are pretty nice, but you really have to look at this particular bike. And that brings me to what I marvel at the most..

The metal — and the craftsmanship : You should see the metal pieces on this bike. The craftsmanship is unbelievable. Clips, housings, whatever. It’s all solid as a rock, all the joints and fittings fit together to make it like one big block of steel. Everything fits together so cleanly, nothing out of place. And it’s all metal. No plastic, none.

Design Flaws
I’m technical, I think about design a lot. So, let me rant a bit — the rants don’t come close to the compliments, like maybe 5% rant, 95% compliment, but the rants need to be said.

1. No power in the front, you’ve gotta be &*%$#@ kidding me. The top of the line CVO with a built in MP3 playing system speakers and all, and no charger, plug, adapter, or anything.. HUGE design oversight and it’s going to be a solid 500+ bones to fix. People like me who can afford this bike are full of gadgetry, and my iPhone battery won’t last for the full length of a ride. Neither will a GPS. I’m so miffed I think Harley should go on a road show and fix it for every FLSTSE2 owner in the country.

2. Levers and things are angled for big dudes and I’m only big on the inside. I guess I have smaller fingers compared to the other riders of this bike line. I try to explain it with this diagram, at least the front controls. Look at the picture, it’s roughly how I pull the clutch and the break, basically with one finger because of the angle. The picture on the right is what I think they should have been. What’s it like to pull at that angle? Think of squeezing a softer racquetball with just your thumb and index finger, and at the base of that lever. It’s not long before it hurts like a SOB. I tried really hard to find a different angle lever — like what’s on the right. But both systems are hydrolic so there aren’t many options. And as a climber and a swing dancer, I probably have some pretty strong fingers. The angle makes those levers just kind of stick out too far. All that detail and that’s what they came up with?

3. The hydraulic clutch is really difficult to work with in stop and go traffic. I’ve released the clutch and stalled the bike about 6 times already. With that, I have to say the other side. After the bike is moving — ahh man that hydrolic system is a dream. But, I ride in NYC. Straight up — lemme ride the clutch a little easier on the stop and go next time please.

4. The gas gauge itself kind of sticks. That may be related to the cold, like the bike needs to warm up for it to start showing what it needs. It’s also kind of hard to see the gas gauge, I have to lean forward to see it. It’s nice to have a gas gauge by the way, I’m really sick of waiting for my odometer to hit 100 miles before I fill her up… but still it’s kinda hard to see. And if you ride, you know you have to constantly monitor your fuel. (range on a typical motorcycle is about 100 miles I’d guess.)

6. To see if the bike has the turn signal on, you have to take your eyes off the road, there’s no other way. It really makes me think twice about using them before I click them. If there WASN’T a system to shut them off it’d be different. You’d simply turn on the signal, execute the turn, and then manually flip it off. But, there is an accelerometer, so sometimes the signal shuts itself off. Basically, every time you flip it on, you have to look to see if the accelerometer shut it off or not. I foresee many future miles with a random blinking light coming from the back of my bike.

7. The passenger seat strap. There’s always a little strap on a motorcycle passenger seat that allows the passenger to hold on to something other than the driver. It’s kind of loose on my bike, but it’s loose because of the way the seat is shaped in a bit of a V. So it slips, kind of rides forward. Kind of like how roll up a shirt sleeve and it just eventually messy-like floats down. It creates a noticible imperfection in the lines and I can’t help but notice it. Actually, I’m becoming a little neurotic about it, but I have a little OCD. Still.. Custom leather seats with all forms of alligator skin stuff, detail to the nines, and they didn’t think about that strap riding forward?

The Real Experience

Riding this bike is fun, seriously. Riding my last bike was like eating because you need to eat or you’ll die. Riding this bike is like enjoying every smell of your favorite 5 course Italian restaurant. Same time spent on two wheels, but a totally different experience.

It’s a work of art and people appreciate it. Sure, there’s a little pride when people stop cold in their tracks and talk about your bike to you and trust me that will happen all the time.. But it’s just so freakin’ awesome that you can’t help but agree with them. I don’t know how others will handle these situations, but it really makes me want to let people stop and look at it. It’s almost like riding a legacy, like how you respect an old soldier by listening to his stories, with this bike you want to share it with people to respect all the people who created it. My wife says it’s just a bike. Many, myself included would say she’s nuts. I know it’s all about money, jobs, sales, commerce, brands, all of that.. But when you throw your leg over the saddle of this bike it all seems to go away.

A perspective on rhythms from a champion shag dancer

Before I start, let me define what I believe as multi-rhythm shag. To me, multi-rhythm shag is basically any combination of slows and quicks, slows and holds, whatever that fits in the framework of the dance. So, SSQQ (Double,) SSQQQQ (the long double,) SQQSQQ (Single,) QQ (Even), SS(Quad), SQQQQS/SQQS (endpoint ), S/Triple, Step/Holds …. Whatever… It’s the ability to stitch whatever rhythm you want into your shag style, while still keeping it shag.

As I go much more deeply into my own study of shag, I’ve found that rhythms no longer matter to me, at least as a dancer. Obviously it’s a totally different ball game when it comes to being an instructor or a choreographer, but either way, it’s pretty liberating to make such a bold statement in my own head to myself. It’s a little scary to say something like this in a blog record, but I might as well.

There was a time when I really enjoyed the simplicity of a single rhythm (double) Buy zofran and I used to believe it was was cornerstone to the style. But on the flip side, I always thought it was too pattern like. And me personally, I’ve always had the urge to fight my own pattern ruts by jumping way into another section of dance, like lead/follow, musicality, levels, flash, natural, whatever. For my own desire to advance my shag competency, I started studying other rhythms of shag or styles, like St. Louis and Single Shag.

Well it wasn’t long before I saw some of the features of other genres or rhythm that simply didn’t quite fit into the standard double basic. On the other hand, all the merits and features of double existed fully in single. I was immediately hooked and jumped in full force into other shag rhythms. Anything I road I could find I was going down it was like every time I opened a door into a different pattern a whole new set of opportunities popped up and I loved it.

And man was that a can of worms. Everybody’s opinion that mattered to me agreed that it was beautiful shag, but there were all these people saying it needs to be one or the other, like the camps in the savoy versus hollywood days. I totally felt like an outlier and used to literally practice double-only-shag just because. It was a total mind game for quite a long time.

I really did want to carry the message of multi-rhythm or at least single rhythm. Eventually I started thinking I was doing an disservice by not really going out with it. It started slow at first, first working with a stream of partners, then single shag workshops, then it made it into my weekly classes… and so on.

Still though, it was a huge mind game from day one. Consider all the factors ….

The rest of the world focused mostly entirely on double shag socially, and I am one of the few shag teachers out there

I was a double shagger too, all my workshops through the late 90′s and up until about 2008 had all been double, as was most of social shag

Most all other teachers have been teaching only double or relative patterns off double

Hell, I was the only lead I knew that was even doing single.

That was quite a while ago now and a lot has changed. I don’t remember really when I started mixing everything up into one, and I don’t remember when I started to not worry about it as much. It must have happened over time.

I do know what it’s like now though. Just a few nights ago I was out with my partner Jaime and we were just shagging up a storm. After one specific song I attempted to retrace my steps. I started in double, danced a good bit in 5/7 because artie shaw does that to me, did single on the girls footwork for who knows how long, went through evens, quads, all of it.

kaufen Womens Intimacy Enhancer online

It was all just strong and unplanned social shag with bullet fast rhythm specific turns, micro connections galore, variations and patterns up the wazoo, and all of it was totally integrated into the partnership. To me, that’s what shag is all about, when you and your partner both feel it in your bones together and the shag just comes out of a dead on connection.

My classes have long since been multi rhythm too. We’ll walk in, pick a few connections, patterns, or whatever, and just go through them. Seems to make good sense to me, focus on the quality of movement of connections first, the quality of movement through the transitions. After that, then you apply it to a rhythm. It’s really fun to watch sometimes.

Laura K and Jeremy A have both told me that balboa balboa is a 2 count dance, not an 8 count dance. I like that.
I wouldn’t quite say the same thing about shag, but I do think it opens up considerably into something Buy Cialis Online Pharmacy No Prescription Needed quite more vast if you look beyond just the trusty slow, slow, quick, quick.

——

Here’s a video that shows general rhythmic adjustments. The class was on connections, but the video shows how the rhythms and moves are less important than the connections that lead them. Everybody in the class did fine with all this content.

[root@hostname]# yum install gcc sysstat unixODBC unixODBC-devel libaio compat-libstdc++ compat-libstdc glibc-devel libaio-devel libstdc++ gcc-c++ libstdc++-devel gcc-c++ libstdc++-devel compat-libstdc++ compat-libstdc++-33 elfutils-libelf-devel gcc-c++ unixODBC unixODBC-devel elfutils-libelf-devel

Installation Steps:

First download the two disk install kit in on svn.temcontrol.com/web/storage/oracle

Extract it in ~oracle.

set up an xserv and troubleshoot until you can get xclock exported to your desktop. You may have to yum install xserv by the following yum install xorg-x11-server-Xorg xorg-x11-xauth xclock

Set environment variables (ORALCE_HOME, NLS_LANG, LD_LIBRARY_PATH), probably by symlinking the oracle.sh file into /etc/profile.d.

SSH in as the Oracle user, and run the command runinstaller.sh AS THE ORACLE USER to wherever you unzipped it to. It should launch a gui on your desktop. Go with stand alone database, no need to set up clustering considering we have an oracle cluster we’re using, and we’re just installing this for the client.

Create the base directory for the installer.

[root@o5183 oracle]# mkdir -p /u01/app/oracle
[root@o5183 oracle]# chown -R oracle:oracle /u01

Install Administrator and with defaults. If you’re missing any dependencies, scroll up. You have to install administrator because that’s where a lot of the binaries are for loading data.

Also, be sure the Oracle Base is set to /u01/app/oracle. By default it’s going to be wherever you unzipped.

Though I use the term ‘Collegiate Shag’ all over my website, in my classes, and on my workshop fliers to describe a dance executed in either six and eight counts, and though most call what I do Collegiate Shag, I really do very little collegiate shag, at least as it has been defined pre 1990.

I specifically use the term ‘Collegiate’ because I want people to find me on search engines, because I really don’t want to confuse people with the style of dance that I do, and because I don’t really want to say that anybody else’s definition is all messed up. But if you ever talk to me in person, I surely do not call myself a “Collegiate Shag” dancer. I and most others that I know will simply call myself a shagger.

Collegiate Shag is a term that became popular by all of us in the 90′s to describe our dance and to differentiate it from other forms of shag that were more popular, like say modern Carolina Shag. In fact, Collegiate Shag was mentioned only once that I am aware of, and only in writing. Buy ilosone online It was used to describe triple steps in the place of quick quicks in shag. It’s funny. On all the Arthur Murray teaches collegiate shag clips out there, he never once uses the word ‘Collegiate’ to describe it.

I do do this rhythm, it often reminds me of balboa with triple steps, except it’ s pretty ea

kaufen Womens Intimacy Enhancer online

sy to make it look more shaggy. In double rhythm, it tends to look a lot like east coast swing too, so only practice it in single rhythm shag. And also, when I do it Buy Viagra Super Active+ Online Pharmacy No Prescription Needed at speeds of greater than 180, it always looks muddled. I think of it more as a slow shag rhythm. It’s fun, I just don’t do it or teach it often.

Oh, and “carolina” shag also has the same problem. Back in the 30′s and 40′s it was defined multiple times to be a subset of the shag we know as “collegiate.”

This probably doesn’t matter to anybody but me considering you can “google” up something, or you can buy “bling” for your gal.

– see you shagmasters on the floor.!

As I move further into my study of shag, I find myself being more and more attracted to the earlier forms of of the dance, before the arthur murray clip, before the judges, before the competitions. Times were very different back then. There were tommy guns, gangs, depression, blacks forced into the back room, massive wars, major industrial revolutions going on all over the place, post victorian era mindsets.. I can’t even begin to imagine what it was like.

But there were groups who bonded together, and dancers were definitely one of them.

I like to think dance at that Buy Cialis Professional Online Pharmacy No Prescription Needed time, and specifically shag, was about sharing time with your partner, not swapping between everybody Buy eskalith online wearing track pants at a club. I like to think it was just a time when people were doing anything they could to do to experience a strong connection with another human.

I find myself influenced heavily by this concept, and my shag is heading in that direction with me.

kaufen Womens Intimacy Enhancer online

My exercises, directions seem to be more and more about connecting with my partner fully, down to the smallest millimeter of weight shift either laterally or forward to back. To me, if you aren’t connected, then it just doesn’t feel right. Sure, I love throwing tricks, but that’s my personality, and it’s really not a part of shag. It’s just my thing, what I bring to the style.

Some say that this concept of ‘inward’ dancing was at the core of LA style in the late 30′s. One thing I can say for certain is this looks almost nothing like the shag we know today.

Let me close this post by showing a video of what I believe may be the most connected set of dancers I’ve ever seen in any TV clip. They aren’t actors. They aren’t dancing to a metronome. They’re just a bunch of warmed up partnerships tearing it up to a live band. Style doesn’t matter, their form is very specific to each couple, and it’s all just different. To me, it seems like it’s all about just being connected.

Enjoy.
